Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation President Dan Glessing was in Washington, D.C. for the American Farm Bureau board meeting. Time was also spent amid the chaos on Capitol Hill. The 2025 farm bill was a hot topic. “Now, this is pretty aspirational, but, G.T. Thompson, the chair of the House Ag Committee, said he wants to have it through committee in the first quarter of next year,” said Glessing. “But, when you look at all those appointments that the Senate would have to confirm it’s going to be a heavy lift to get the whole bill done.” The Tax Cut and Jobs Act is also on the agenda next year. “Senator (John) Thune (incoming Majority Leader) really would like to see that done by the August break, of course, the government never works nearly as fast as you’d like it to.”
