Farmers growing row crops have seen a big drop in income this year. 2025 isn’t looking much better. “If we look at the ag economy as a whole, we’re in a slump, especially with the grain prices,” said Bernt Nelson, economist, American Farm Bureau Federation. “We have lost about 25 percent of the overall net farm income in just two years and that’s a big hit.” The livestock situation is better, offsetting the losses in the grain sector somewhat. “While I think recession is a tough term, the ag economy is definitely having a hard year.” A recent survey showed over half of ag economists think the sector is in a recession.
