House Republicans and Democrats are at odds over the economic relief package for farmers. Mississippi Congressman Trent Kelly introduced the Farm Assistance and Revenue Mitigation of FARM Act to help offset the recent low commodity prices. Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers President Kevin Leiser wants Congress to act on this legislation. “There’s a need for it because of these prices; our input costs have not gone down and there’s a lot of guys hurting right now.” The FARM Act has support from both parties, but there is disagreement over what should be included in the bill and how it would be funded. House Speaker Mike Johnson prefers a ‘clean’ one-year farm bill extension without the additional economic assistance package.
