Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member John Boozman went to the Senate floor, asking his colleagues to support emergency economic assistance for farmers. “Farmers, lenders and community leaders in all regions of the country are saying the same thing; farmers desperately need help.” Congress is expected to pass another farm bill extension during the lame-duck session. Disaster relief is also likely. As farm losses mount, Boozman voiced support for a bill called the Farmer Assistance and Revenue Mitigation or FARM Act. “For some producers, this is the second or third consecutive year of negative cash flow. This means many farm families are ending 2024 in the red, unable to pay off this year’s operating loan, unable to get the loan to farm in 2025, and face the reality of being the next generation to have lost the family farm due to extreme market conditions beyond their control.” Numerous farm groups support the farm assistance package, including commodity groups representing corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, canola, and sunflowers.
