Speaking at the University of North Dakota Tax Practitioners Institute, Washburn University School of Law professor Roger McEowen said he is watching what Congress in this post-election session. “In the lame-duck session, there are some things that must pass, some things that are likely to pass, and some things that are unlikely to pass,” said McEowen. “They need to do a budget bill. That’s a must or we’d face another government shutdown and they need to do disaster relief so I’d put those two in the must-pass category.” The question remains if lawmakers will tag any tax provisions into those must-pass pieces of legislation.
