Mexico’s new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, is promoting a self sufficiency initiative for food staples, including tortillas and dry beans. This includes a plan to increase corn and bean production. The focus would be on guaranteeing prices for farmers who grow corn for tortillas . The Mexican government also wants to increase domestic dry bean production by 30 percent in six years to replace bean imports.
