Calves are just starting to pour into the Bagley Livestock Exchange for the fall run. “Ninety percent of them are coming right off the cows, unweaned,” said co-owner Billy Bushelle. Demand is being seen for replacement heifers, which is much earlier than normal. “We might be just on the first baby-steps of rebuilding the herd.” Even if cattle producers begin to rebuild their herds now, Bushelle said it will still be another three years before that meat is in your supermarket. “We’re going to see one of the longest upsides of this market that we’ve even seen in history.”
