Weathertrends360 is helping companies across the country by offering weather forecasts up to a year in advance. Clients include Anheuser Busch, JP Morgan, and Walmart. CEO Bill Kirk says the company has evolved to provide services for farming operations as well. “It’s providing the farmer a proactive way to plan. So, if you know it’s going to be the coldest, wettest corn belt in five years, you may go with a different seed variety. If you know that it’s going to be a dry spring planting, then you don’t have to worry about replanting. If it’s dry all summer long, then you need less nitrogen. It’s helping farmers understand when they can plant, what’s their overall crop expectation, what’s their harvest date, and what are the risks in the season.” Farmers can stay up to date with FarmCast – a daily service that provides short-term and year-ahead weather forecasts that can be focused on multiple areas. “To get started you pick up to three areas, then all you need once a year is to enter the planting date. It then starts tracking every day, how much rain you’ve had, your growing degree day since planting, and 90-degree day since planting. Then the neat thing about it is on page four of the report, there’s a ticker that alerts when your crops are going to reach maturity, silking, all the phases.”
