North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has activated the Hay Hotline and a Rancher Relief Hotline. Even if livestock weren’t lost in the wildfires, Goehring said there is an increased risk for health complications such as pneumonia. “Sometimes it’s a week or two afterward when you start losing livestock and that’s simply because of the event that took place previously,” said Goehring. “The Feds have not always been good about responding to those things,” but Goehring said the state will advocate for that support. The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is working with NDSU Extension to assess the agricultural losses due to the wildfires.
