In addition to the looming farm bill deadline, ad hoc financial assistance for farmers has been discussed on Capitol Hill. “The American Farm Bureau Federation put out a letter asking for disaster assistance to help producers for assistance to get through to the next farm bill,” said DaNita Murray, executive director, South Dakota Corn Growers Association. “It’s a very ambitious list and is asking a lot.” Murray sees the possibility of the farm bill being piggybacked on other legislation. “That may include another continuing resolution to fund the government. I am not sure what that looks like. I do know, however, that that lame duck will be very interesting to watch.”
