The demand for ag teachers continues to grow. University of Minnesota Associate Professor Amy Smith believes lawmakers can help solve the ag teacher shortage. “Opportunities and resources like teacher loan forgiveness, additional scholarships, and grants can help offset some of the college costs and investment in that degree.” Smith encourages help from the grassroots level. “If every single ag teacher would identify one student in their program and tell them that they have what it takes to become an ag teacher, we would probably have an abundance at that point.” Thursday was National Teach Ag Day.
