China’s decision to initiate an anti-dumping investigation against Canadian canola oil sent canola markets lower this past week. Winnipeg-based Ag-Chieve President David Drozd said this is not the first time China has targeted canola oil. “Back when the Huawei executive was being held (in 2019), they said they weren’t going to buy from Richardson (Internationa) and Bunge; we had the market go down the next day and it never really recovered to any great extent until they resolved the issue with the Huawei executives,” said Drozd. “I’ve always said every time our prime minister zigs, China zag, and the farmer gets punished.”
