A proposal to reform livestock disaster assistance programs is getting support from four major South Dakota ag groups. South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds and Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar introduced the legislation which would require the Farm Service Agency to make quarterly updates to the Livestock Indemnity Program payment rates to better reflect current market prices. Rounds’ office has released a news release saying the bill has been endorsed by the South Dakota Farmers Union, South Dakota Farm Bureau, South Dakota Stockgrowers Association and the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association.
