Minnesota Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Aric Putnam and members of his committee are traveling the state to meet with farmers. This tour included everything from sugarbeets to organic vegetables to large-scale swine production. “As a legislator, it’s really important, not just in agriculture, but in everything we do, to be aware of all this complexity when we’re making policies so that we don’t just use one big brush to paint everybody the same way.” From this tour, Putnam said he wants to develop innovation grants to help farmers try new things. A focus on mental health issues in agriculture is also on the agenda.
