The big story in the cattle market remains heifer replacements and when cow-calf producers start holding back those heifers. “So far, they’ve been putting them in the finishing lot and that has kept the supply of beef more than adequate,” said Steve Wagner, market analyst, RCM Ag Services. “Once they start holding back heifers, there is going to be a hole in the cattle supply.”
