Wheat midge populations are continuing to emerge in the northern tier of North Dakota. The NDSU Crop and Pest Report says farmers can determine if their crop is at risk for wheat midge by assessing the wheat midge degree-day model on the North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network website. The economic threshold for spring wheat is one or more midge per four to five heads. For durum wheat, the threshold is one or more midge for every seven to eight heads.
