Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Kaitlyn Root says the conflict between livestock and wildlife has been played out in state and federal policy. “Our producers are seeing high levels of elk depredation and the DNR wanted to increase the elk herd populations in the state of Minnesota.” Wolves remain a critical concern at the national level. “Congressman (Pete) Stauber was able to pass a bill through the House that would delist the gray wolf (from the endangered species list) in Minnesota but we need Senate support and presidential support.”
