NDSU Extension Weed Specialist Joe Ikley has been getting questions about the efficacy of residual herbicides applied before several inches of rain. “The effectiveness depends on the chemistry or product that we used,” said Ikley. “This determines how much residual herbicides we can expect as we get into the late part of June and early July.” Water soluble herbicides have a faster-leaching potential and are not as capable with the rain in the area. Ikley urges farmers to have an action plan for the fields that had a water-soluble herbicide applied in early May.
