Drought conditions have improved this year. “It was very encouraging to see the spring rainfall,” said Mark Brusberg, chief meteorologist, USDA. “Getting rain in the spring is a bit of a dual-edged sword. They have moisture for germination, but it did tend to slow down fieldwork a bit. Now we’re hoping for warm weather to keep the crops moving along.” Brusberg said the Southern Plains still has trouble spots. “They’ve been getting rain on a timely basis, but the winter wheat crop still isn’t ideal.” Brusberg was in Fargo for the World Beet and Cane Sugar Annual Conference.
