The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the Commodity Credit Corporation spending authority would total $12 billion for the next ten years, beginning in 2025. That’s far short of the levels included in the farm bill that passed out of the House Agriculture Committee last month. Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow responded by saying the House Republican farm bill has relied on “magic math and wishful thinking.” These new estimates will not impact the current farm bill debate unless Congress is forced to extend the current farm bill again. House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson pushed to complete his committee’s farm bill plan in May so the budget score would be with the numbers released a year ago.
