The federal government is cutting money available for states for meat inspection. North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said state and federal governments split those costs 50-50. “We were informed that they’re no longer are going to be able to provide any more money to do that which is disheartening given the fact that this is for consumers. It’s food safety. It impacts our producers but it also impacts the consumer.” Goehring said the Biden Administration seems to have money for NGO’s but is ignoring essential programs. “We’ve been dealing with this for a while and we’ve been a bit quiet about it,” Goehring told RRFN. “Not now because now it’s really going to hurt the consumer. It’s going to hurt the producer. It’s going to hurt all of our small and midsized processors who were promised they were here to help them.”
