Bayer Crop Science field sales representative Clark Leier says the crops in his territory in central North Dakota crops that are planted look very good. Hail-damaged wheat should recover, but Leier says a fungicide will be necessary to protect the crop. “A good application of a fungicide will help save some of the yield potential that’s out there,” said Leir. “The physical injury from the hail is an entrance for disease to get into the plant and start. I would say the majority of fungicides are preventative fungicides so we have to spray them on before the infection starts in the plant in order to be effective.” Listen to the interview.
