The House farm bill includes an increase in reference prices and a chance to update and add base acres. The bill also provides crop insurance incentives for beginning farmers. In response to Prop 12, the House Agriculture Committee’s bill safeguards livestock producers’ ability to market their animals across state lines. Farmers who receive 75 percent or more of their income from farming would see farm program payment limits expand from $125,000 to $155,000. Democratic amendments addressing the restoration of $27 billion in SNAP funding and keeping the climate-smart agriculture conservation dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act were defeated.
