Corn and soybean markets have not been favorable for farmers. Farm management analyst Kent Thiesse explains that basis has been playing a key role in prices in southern Minnesota. “We get a few days where it might go up a little bit and a few days where it might go down. The other factor that farmers have watched is basis.” There are many factors that Thiesse is planning to watch when predicting where the markets will go in the future. “We certainly have to keep an eye on the domestic usage of the crop for domestic feeds, ethanol, and biofuels. We also have to keep an eye on exports. There has been some activity with China recently with tariffs which usually make farmers pretty nervous.”
