South Dakota Senator John Thune has been the Senate Minority Whip since 2021 and is a candidate to replace Senator Mitch McConnell as the Republican leader at the end of the year. If successful, Thune said he would remain a member of the agriculture committee. “I would expect to stay active on the committees, but for sure on ag,” Thune told farm broadcasters. “It’s our #1 industry and I’ve always viewed my work here, first and foremost, as being a good representative for my state.”
