The policies included in the Minnesota House Environment bill touch all parts of the economy, including agriculture. There’s language that deals with the availability of treated seed and a proposal to increase the maximum penalty for violating the state buffer law from $500-to-$10,000. Minnesota Farm Bureau Public Policy Director Pierce Bennett said his members are also opposed to a proposal requiring the disclosure of drainage tile. “We believe there is a strong regulatory framework already in existence for drainage and drainage tile projects. We do not believe we need additional regulatory frameworks and additional disclosure requirements.”
