Controlling weeds is a tough business and relies on a lot of things going right to keep them in check. NDSU Weed Scientist Joe Ikley provided an update during the NDSU Soybean Symposium highlighting the need to be creative in weed management. “Everyone’s looking for a silver bullet. It means they want one product to control all their weeds and that’s just really not how it’s going to work.” Utilizing pre-emergence herbicides and different modes-of-action will help keep these tools viable longer. “These post-emergence chemistries are very good for our weeds but if we just rely on those, we end up losing efficacy and we will get resistance at some points as well.”
