In Thursday’s USDA Hogs and Pigs Report, the March 1 inventory was 74.6 million head. That’s up one percent from a year ago, but down two percent from last quarter. The December-February pig crop was nearly two percent above March of 2023. The trade expected an increase of 1.4 percent. The March-May farrowing intentions were 2.9 million head. That’s less than one percent below last year. The trade was expecting a decline closer to two percent.
