After news broke that dairy cattle tested positive for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, National Milk Producers Federation Executive Vice President for Communications and Industry Relations Alan Bjerga was quick to say there would be no impact on milk supply. According to Bjerga, the announcement will have more impact on the dairy industry than the actual infections. “This isn’t something you should see as having a measurable impact on the production levels. We’re talking about a small number of farms and a small percentage of a herd,” said Bjerga. “It’s an illness from which the cows recover. Every drop counts in terms of the revenue stream, but the overall ion the dairy industry isn’t something that is necessarily even going to be noticeable.”
