The mild temperatures this winter may lead to heavier insect pressure this growing season. “We often rely on our cold winters to kind of hold back the tide from a lot of either invasive insects or push back from the ones that do live here,” said Anthony Hanson, University of Minnesota Extension Educator. “This year, with it being this mild, a lot of our insects aren’t going to have much mortality, if any.” Natural predators may also have a higher survival rate this winter. Hanson says it’s difficult to estimate exactly what insect pressure may be like this growing season as kill temps can vary. Hear the full interview with Anthony Hanson here.
