Minnesota Soybean Growers Association President Bob Worth wants to protect and enhance crop insurance in the new farm bill. “We all know that the ad-hoc programs don’t always work very well for farmers,” said Worth. “We need to have it done through crop insurance so the program takes care of a farmer’s needs in a timely manner; we have to get it done the same year we have a disaster, not a couple or three years later.” Worth acknowledges the issue comes down to the cost, “but, if they would look at how much money they spent on ad-hoc over the past ten years they could put a lot of money into the farm bill.”
