Longtime NDSU Extension Soil Specialist Dave Franzen will this fall. In his presentation at this year’s International Crop Expo, Franzen reviewed the changes he has seen in the past 30 years in soil science. “We started out with yield goal-based formulas and now we focus on relative yield.” Franzen also stressed the importance of potassium in clay chemistry. “It’s not something that professors spend a lot of time on in soil fertility classes, but they really should be because potassium fertility is very complex.”
