With new ethanol plants opening, the growing use of E15, and a new focus on sustainable aviation fuels, biofuels continue to push the envelope in the fuel market. Growth Energy’s Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Chris Bliley feels that the opportunities provided by the push for biofuels are less about competition and more about alternative solutions and working together to reduce carbon output. “We can coexist. There are 275 million vehicles on the road today that use liquid fuels. We are going to burn a trillion gallons of liquid fuel this decade, another trillion gallons of fuel next decade, and another trillion gallons of fuel in the following decade, regardless of how aggressive your electrification goals may be. So you really need a solution to help decarbonize those legacy vehicles that continue to use liquid fuels, ” Billey said at USDA’s Agriculture Outlook Forum.
