The ongoing Houthi attacks on commercial ships on the Red Sea have been met with retaliation by the United States and the United Kingdom. Strikes were carried out on Houthi military positions in Yemen over the weekend. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said this “sends a clear message to the Houthis that they will continue to bear further consequences if they do not end their illegal attacks on international shipping.” The Houthi violence on the Red Sea has disrupted global shipping since November, impacting cost and timeliness.
