Cattle numbers are at levels not seen since 1951. According to USDA’s semi-annual cattle inventory report, there were 87.2 million head of cattle and calves as of January 1. The cattle inventory is down 4.6 percent in North Dakota, down 1.4 percent in South Dakota and down just under one percent in Minnesota.
