Congressional leaders have an agreement on each of the 12 appropriations bills, including the spending bill for USDA. Committee leadership will now take those topline numbers and iron out the detailed spending level for each part of the farm bill. Agriculture groups have lobbied for an increase in spending for an update in reference prices, market promotion and more. Nutrition funding, which makes up the bulk of the farm bill, is also likely to get more money. The latest stopgap spending bills expire March 1 and March 8.
