One of the largest container shipping companies in the world plans to bypass the Panama Canal by using the railroad. The Panama Canal is dealing with reduced water levels due to a drought which has impacted the volume it can handle. The Danish shipping firm, Maersk, announced it will use the rail line that runs next to the Panama Canal to make the connection between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
