EarthOptics has become a leader in soil carbon measuring in the U.S. reaching a milestone of 1 million acres mapped in 2023. CEO Lars Dyred they are looking forward to an even bigger 2024 as the carbon offset markets grow. “We’re mapping soil carbon, soil fertility, soil health and soil compaction,” said Dyred. Typically, the data is used for carbon credit programs for companies like Microsoft, United Airlines or packaged goods companies who are buying credits to offset their emissions. They aim to help farmers and ranchers find profits outside of selling commodities. “Almost every program that we’re working with comes with payments to the growers. We call it a ‘decomoditization’ where farmers are getting paid for not just what they grow, but how they grow it.” EarthOptics plans to at least double their mapped acres in 2024.
