The Minnesota Department of Agriculture will award its first full round of Soil Health Financial Assistance Grants January 1. Nearly $2.4 million is available to help farmers and others purchase or retrofit soil health equipment. This is a 50 percent cost-share with a minimum grant of $500 and a maximum of $50,000. Brad Redlin oversees the program. “We’re seeing a whole lot of no-till drills, but other stuff too, like a couple of drones for seeding, some adapted high boys for interseeding and manure injection.” In the first round, this grant program received three-and-a-half times the number of applications beyond the available funding. Another application round will be made in July.
