Finding labor is the biggest challenge faced by members of U.S. Custom Harvesters Inc. USCHI Secretary Mark Anderson points to the struggles with the H-2A program. “We’re running into a lot of regulatory issues there,” said Anderson. “We’re either going to have to pay the workforce a lot more money or we’re going to have to find domestic workers or someone else to fill that void.” Low unemployment rates add to the challenge. USCHI is sponsoring a petition by the National Coalition of Agricultural Employers to appeal new rules. Anderson says that court case remains tied up in the court system causing uncertainty.
