The Federal Open Market Committee held its key interest rate unchanged for the third consecutive meeting. A statement issued after the 19-member policy committee meeting said inflation has eased over the past year but remains elevated. The benchmark interest rate is at 5.4 percent, which is the highest level in 22 years.
