South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke is disappointed in the farm bill process. “It’s great that they still have the same one for the next year but we spent a lot of time advocating for changes and some new approaches to modern agriculture and now that’s going to be all for naught,” said Sombke. “We’re going to have to restart that engine finding ways to be more responsible to the taxpayers for the subsidies that we do see in the farm bill and help younger farmers compete with the established farmer.” The South Dakota Farmers Union Convention was held in Huron.
