Animal rights activist groups are skilled at using pressure campaigns to push their agenda. “The target really feels that they have no other choice but to do what these organizations are saying,” explained Emily Ellis, communications manager, Animal Agriculture Alliance. It’s important for farmers and ranchers to build relationships with lawmakers to become a resource on animal ag issues. Community outreach is also important. “Make sure we’re not letting animal rights groups tell our story for us.”
