The number of cattle placed in feedlots in September was six percent higher than 2022. That’s well above the range of trade estimates going into Friday’s USDA report. The number of cattle and calves on feed totaled 11.6 million head, up one percent from last year. That’s the second highest October 1 inventory since this report began in 1996. Marketings were 11 percent below last year.
