USDA is defending its methodology for crop production reports. During a biannual data users’ meeting, yield data was questioned. Corn yields have been below USDA’s trendline yields for five straight years. USDA officials said there are no plans to recalibrate yield estimates and suggested multiple years of bad weather can distort the perspective on trendline yields.
