Dave Ellens farms near Madison, South Dakota and just finished up soybean harvest. “I think they were ten bushels better than we were expecting. In our area, we have heavy enough soil that when we caught a big rain in August, we were able to store that moisture.” Foggy mornings have forced some farmers in the area to switch from the soybean harvest to corn. “I don’t think we’re going to see any bin busters around here just because June was really tough on the corn crop.” Ellens is president of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association.
