Congress ended a chaotic week with a surprising weekend vote on a short-term spending bill. The House passed the continuing resolution with a vote of 335-to-91 with 90 Republicans and one Democrat voting against it. The same bill passed the Senate with an 88-to-nine vote Saturday night. President Biden signed it into law before the fiscal year ended at midnight, avoiding a government shutdown. For agriculture, that means next week’s USDA supply/demand report will be released as scheduled and thousands of USDA employees are still on the job.
