The United States is transitioning its energy policy from a volume-based Renewable Fuels Standard to the low-carbon fuel standards. Larry Lemaster is with a company called Elevar Partners and was part of the Next 5 Years Conference. Lemaster said the ethanol industry overbuilt. “We’ve got 17.5 billion gallons of capacity and today there is about 14 billion gallons of demand.” Ethanol is now transitioning to a low carbon fuel. “We’re also seeing a lot of news about carbon capture sequestration which, if successful and completed, will lower the carbon intensity of ethanol.”
