Pioneer Field Agronomist Kristie Sundeen led the tour Tuesday and described her territory across northern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota as dry. “The northeast pocket (of North Dakota) north of Highway 2, that’s where it was really dry. There are some areas that I would say are 30 percent of normal rainfall.” The moisture has slowed the small grain harvest. Sundeen is pleasantly surprised with the corn. “I have plots all over the place and for the most part there’s not a lot of tipback, a few pollination issues here and there, but they’re random.” Canola is a favorite crop for Sundeen and she’s seeing a lot of desiccation happening. “There’s not a lot off but I do have one side-by-side (plot) off in the Badger/Roseau, Minnesota area that was really good at the upper 1,800s to 2,000 pounds and that was a really dry pocket. I think that plot had five inches of rain all season.” The Sundeen video interview can be found online.
