This is a time of the year when feeder cattle prices typically see seasonal weakness. Van Ahn and Company market analyst Steve Witt does not expect that to happen this year. Cattle numbers are tight and it will take time to rebuild that herd. “The heifer replacements are not there and dairies are culling pretty heavy so that’s going to keep some pressure on the market,” said Witt. “With the dairy prices being so poor, guys are taking advantage of the slaughter prices.”
